Start and stop read-aloud

Find the read-aloud button
Look for the Read this page to me button in the top navigation bar. It
shows a speaker icon when read-aloud is inactive.

Tap the button to begin
Tap Read this page to me. AfterCare immediately starts reading the
content of the current screen from the top. The button label changes to
Stop reading and the icon switches to a stop circle so you can identify
it at a glance.

Stop at any time
Tap Stop reading to pause and dismiss the speech. Navigating to a
different screen also stops any ongoing speech automatically.
Adjust read-aloud speed
AfterCare lets you slow down or speed up the reading voice to match your preference.1
Open Accessibility settings
From the navigation bar, open Settings → Accessibility.

Find the Read-aloud speed slider
Scroll to the Read-aloud speed row. You will see a horizontal slider.

Drag the slider to set your speed
Drag left to slow the voice down (minimum: 0.6× normal speed) or right to
speed it up (maximum: 1.4× normal speed). The change takes effect the next
time you tap Read this page to me.
What gets read aloud
Every screen in AfterCare supports read-aloud, including:Medications
Drug names, doses, timing instructions, and any special notes from your
discharge paperwork.
Appointments
Follow-up visit dates, times, locations, and any preparation instructions.
Warning Signs
Symptoms to watch for and the recommended action for each — call your
provider, go to the emergency room, or call 911.
Daily Plan
Activity restrictions, timeline steps, and today’s tasks from your
recovery plan.
Read-aloud uses your device’s built-in speech synthesis engine. The available
voices and audio quality depend on your operating system and browser. If no
voice is available, AfterCare displays a brief error message below the button.
