# Daily Symptom Check-In: Track Your Recovery Progress

> Answer three quick questions about pain, your wound, and how you feel. AfterCare uses a traffic-light score and alerts your care circle when needed.

The Daily Check-In gives you a structured way to record how you're feeling each day. You answer three short questions, AfterCare assigns a traffic-light level to each answer, and the worst level across all three becomes your overall score for the day. Your care circle is alerted automatically when your score is orange or red. Nothing is inferred — the level you see is exactly the option you chose.

<Warning>
  The daily check-in is not a clinical diagnosis and does not replace calling
  your care team. If you feel unwell or are concerned about your recovery, contact
  your provider directly. For a life-threatening emergency, call your local
  emergency number immediately (911 in the US).

## The three questions

<Accordion title="How is your pain today?">
  Choose the option that best describes your pain right now:

  | Colour | Label | What it means |
  | - | - | - |
  | 🟢 Green | Manageable, or no worse than yesterday | Your pain is under control and not changing for the worse. |
  | 🟠 Orange | Worse than yesterday, or my usual relief isn't helping | Your pain has increased or your normal approach isn't working. |
  | 🔴 Red | Severe, sudden, or unbearable | Your pain is significantly worse than expected and needs urgent attention. |
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="How does your wound or surgical site look?">
  Choose the option that best describes the appearance of your wound or incision:

  | Colour | Label | What it means |
  | - | - | - |
  | 🟢 Green | Clean and dry, healing as expected | No signs of infection or unexpected change. |
  | 🟠 Orange | More red, swollen, or leaking than before | Signs of inflammation or increased discharge that warrant monitoring. |
  | 🔴 Red | Opening up, bleeding, or smells bad | Signs that may indicate infection or wound breakdown — act now. |
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="How are you feeling overall?">
  Choose the option that best describes your general wellbeing:

  | Colour | Label | What it means |
  | - | - | - |
  | 🟢 Green | About as expected for my recovery | You feel roughly how you expected to feel at this stage. |
  | 🟠 Orange | Off — more tired, dizzy, or unwell than expected | Something feels different or worse than it should. |
  | 🔴 Red | Very unwell — fever, chills, or trouble breathing | Symptoms that may require urgent medical attention. |
</Accordion>

## Traffic-light scoring

AfterCare uses three levels to summarise your check-in:

<CardGroup cols={3}>
  <Card title="Doing well" icon="circle-check" href="/features/check-in">
    **Green** — all three answers are in the expected range for your stage of
    recovery. No alert is sent.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Keep an eye on this" icon="circle-exclamation" href="/features/check-in">
    **Orange** — at least one answer suggests something worth monitoring. Your
    care circle is alerted automatically.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Needs attention now" icon="circle-xmark" href="/features/check-in">
    **Red** — at least one answer indicates a concern that needs prompt
    attention. Your care circle is alerted automatically.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

Your overall level is the worst level across all three answers. If your pain is green but your wound is orange, your overall level is **Keep an eye on this**.

## Caregiver alerts

When your overall check-in level is **orange or red**, AfterCare automatically sends an alert to everyone in your care circle — the people you've added under **Caregiver Access**. The alert records the date, time, and which questions drove the score.

<Info>
  If no one is in your care circle yet, AfterCare will tell you after saving
  the check-in. You can add a family member or carer at any time from
  **Caregiver Access** in the menu.
</Info>

## Resolving a concerning check-in

An orange or red check-in stays marked as **unresolved** on your dashboard until you explicitly mark it as dealt with. To do this, open your check-in history, find the entry, and tap **Mark as dealt with**. This clears the follow-up priority badge from the dashboard.

## Your check-in history

AfterCare keeps a log of every check-in you've saved, displayed in reverse chronological order beneath the daily form. Each entry shows the date, time, and overall level so you can spot trends in your recovery over time.
