# Managing Your Care Circle: Add and Update Caregivers

> Step-by-step guide to adding caregivers in AfterCare's care circle, with details on how alerts are recorded when a daily check-in turns orange or red.

Your care circle is the list of family members and trusted people who can view your recovery guide and receive alerts when a daily check-in raises a concern. You manage this list from the **Caregiver Access** screen. The steps below walk you through adding someone to your care circle.

## Add a caregiver

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Caregiver Access screen">
    Tap **Caregiver Access** in the navigation bar. AfterCare displays your
    current care circle and a form to add someone new.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the caregiver's email address">
    Type the caregiver's email address into the **Caregiver's email** field —
    for example, `name@example.com`. The field only accepts a valid email
    format, so the **Add caregiver** button will remain inactive until the
    address looks correct.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap Add Caregiver">
    Tap the **Add caregiver** button. AfterCare saves the email to your care
    circle and shows a confirmation message.

    * **Cloud-synced accounts:** The caregiver can now sign in with your
      account email on their own device to view your recovery guide.
    * **Local / device-only mode:** The email is saved on this device. The
      caregiver will appear in the care-circle list, and their address will
      be recorded on any future alerts.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Your care circle

After adding one or more caregivers, AfterCare lists every email address under **Your care circle** on the same screen. Each entry shows the caregiver's email so you can confirm the right people are included.

<Tip>
  Alerts go to everyone in your care circle whenever a daily check-in scores
  orange or red. Keep the list up to date so the right people are always in
  the loop.
</Tip>

## Removing a caregiver

<Note>
  Removing a caregiver from your care circle is not yet supported in the app.
  If you need to remove someone, contact AfterCare support and a team member
  will update your care circle for you.
</Note>

## Troubleshooting

<Accordion title="The Add caregiver button is greyed out">
  The button stays inactive until you enter a properly formatted email address.
  Check that the address contains an `@` sign and a domain (for example,
  `.com` or `.org`) and try again.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="I see an error after tapping Add caregiver">
  AfterCare displays the error message directly below the email field. Common
  causes include a network issue (for cloud-synced accounts) or a duplicate
  email that is already in your care circle. Check the message, correct the
  address if needed, and try again.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="My care circle is empty after switching devices">
  In local / device-only mode, the care-circle list is stored on your device and
  does not sync. You will need to re-add your caregivers on the new device. If
  you have a cloud-synced account, sign in on the new device and your care circle
  will load automatically.
</Accordion>
