# Read-Aloud Mode: Hear Your Recovery Guide Spoken Aloud

> Start, stop, and adjust speed for AfterCare's read-aloud feature, which reads any screen aloud including medications, appointments, and warning signs.

AfterCare can read any screen aloud to you using your device's built-in text-to-speech engine. The **Read this page to me** button sits in the top navigation bar on every screen, so you can start listening at any point without going back to a menu. This is useful when you are tired, when your vision is strained after surgery, or when you simply want your hands free.

## Start and stop read-aloud

<Steps>
  <Step title="Find the read-aloud button">
    Look for the **Read this page to me** button in the top navigation bar. It
    shows a speaker icon when read-aloud is inactive.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap the button to begin">
    Tap **Read this page to me**. AfterCare immediately starts reading the
    content of the current screen from the top. The button label changes to
    **Stop reading** and the icon switches to a stop circle so you can identify
    it at a glance.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Stop at any time">
    Tap **Stop reading** to pause and dismiss the speech. Navigating to a
    different screen also stops any ongoing speech automatically.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Adjust read-aloud speed

AfterCare lets you slow down or speed up the reading voice to match your preference.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Accessibility settings">
    From the navigation bar, open **Settings → Accessibility**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the Read-aloud speed slider">
    Scroll to the **Read-aloud speed** row. You will see a horizontal slider.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Drag the slider to set your speed">
    Drag left to slow the voice down (minimum: 0.6× normal speed) or right to
    speed it up (maximum: 1.4× normal speed). The change takes effect the next
    time you tap **Read this page to me**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Your read-aloud speed setting is saved on this device, so you only need to set
  it once. If you use AfterCare on another device, adjust the slider there too.
</Tip>
